How to scale Bitcoin is still an open research question, while most of the research currently focuses on increasing the number of transaction Bitcoin can process, this paper takes a different view, and looks at the bootstrapping method. We demonstrate an effective and proven attack on the current DNS protocol which enables a low resourced attacker to partition new nodes joining the network. We then conduct analysis on how well the current DNS model can scale, before suggesting a hybrid P2P architecture model comparing this model with the current protocols, in terms of resistance to the DNS attack and scalability.
